| Our
sponsor and co-worker Mattias Johansson has donated a
brand new video machine that can also handle American NTSC
video tapes.
The gift is worth 890
SEK, about USD 125, and immediately found it's natural place
along with our collection of video tape recordings. |

| From
Ole Jonny Braenne and Odd-Gunnar Røed, Norway, early
December 2003. |
| Ole
Jonny Braenne, our Norwegian representative and benefactor
has sent us another box of books, pamplets and magazines
from his own collection (including such rare items as ten
issues of Ray Palmer's book-magazine "The Hidden
World", Valdamar Valarian's "The
Matrix", and "A model of ball lighting" by David
Fryberger, which is an excerpt from the Proceedings of a
Hessdalen conference in 1994). There was also an unbuilt
plastic model of the Roswell UFO, for our paraphernalia
department!!
Just another week later
Ole Jonny sent yet another box with documents, fetched
by him from former UFO-Norway and Project Hessdalen UFO
activist Odd-Gunnar Røed.
The contents of this box, seen in the right-hand corner of the
picture below, was mainly correspondence files, sorted by
year, from Odd-Gunnar's period of work with UFO-Norway
and Project Hessdalen. These files will be further sorted, put
into file folders and preserved with the AFU collection. |

Hilary Evans, being catalogued in November... |
| At the AFU annual meeting
on November 22, the recent donation by London author (of
books on UFOs & the paranormal) Hilary Evans,
had been sorted alphabetically into two sections of book
shelves (picture on the right), before we start the process of cataloguing.
The cataloguing of these,
sometimes very elusive, titles in foreign languages (Spanish,
Portugese, French, Russian, etc) will be immensely helped by Hilary's
previous donation of his annotated bibliography of books
in his possession (some of them now with
us!).
It was the general opinion, at
the AFU board meeting, that this is one of the most important
donations ever to our foundation. It helps us profile the truly
international (not just Anglo-American -Scandinavian)
character of the AFU collections. We plan to publish
separate lists of the book titles and magazines received from
Hilary Evans and Philip Creighton, early in year 2004.

Bill Jones, Columbus, Ohio, October 2003 |
AFU has started an exchange program with William
Jones of MUFON-Ohio, who collects materials for future
preservation with the Ohio
State University
UFO collection. AFU is packing a box of (mostly) European
UFO-related materials published in English - magazines and book copies
that are surplus to our needs. AFU received a collection of tabloid
newspaper materials about a year ago, and recently Bill sent us new
boxes of UFO magazines and books, such as the ones in the picture
below. We'll try to get a meaty package away to Bill and the OSU, very
soon! Thanks!

Anders Gernandt, Arboga, Sweden, October, 2003 |
Anders Gernandt, former test pilot
and member of the Swedish parliament in the 1970's and 1980's, has
donated 67 UFO-related books from his private library to the AFU
foundation. Many of his books will come handy as the second or third
copy of that title in our reference and lending library. Thank you
very much!

UFO-Sweden's Clas Svahn and Hakan
Ekstrand fetched a
car-load crammed with gifts for AFU from the archives of Gordon Creighton (managed by
Gordon's son Philip), and from the archives of UFO
author Hilary Evans. The two collections include a
combined total of about 500 book titles (e.g. a large number of
UFO-related books in Spanish) and 1.000 magazine issues.

 |
| We bought
one of Lisette Larkins' UFO-related books
second-hand on eBay, discovered her homepage,
and started a correspondence. Lisette kindly offered to
send us her books. We've just received three copies each
of her two books ("Calling on extraterrestrials"
(2003) and "Talking to extraterrestrials"
(2002) plus seven other UFO-related books published by Hampton
Roads Publishing. All-in-all 14 pounds of new books for
our reference library, worth their costs as new, plus 54
dollars for the shipping to Sweden, paid for by Lisette Larkin
and the publishers. We are very grateful to Lisette and to the
Hampton Roads Publishing Co. This may prove to be an
example for other book publishers around the world - a way in
which you can support a worldwide library collection of
UFO-related literature. AFU accepts and catalogues
donations of all UFO-related media - in any language! |

"The A.T. factor: Piece for a jig-saw, part III" and
Andrew Collins' "The second coming" - a
little off-side from the UFO subject but still mentioning the
subject and thus of interest to our reference library

Karyn Birkett, Traralgon, Victoria, Austrlia, Sept 5,
2003. |

We
recently asked an Australian eBay seller if we could buy her
copy of the John Pinkney / Lenard Ryzman book
"Alien honeycomb", a sought-after book which has been sadly
missing in our library. The problem was that we are in Sweden and
the seller only wanted to sell within Australia.
Replying, Karyn
Birkett, said she was willing to donate the copy to our
archives free of charge. The copy arrived early September here
and is very gratefully accepted by us at AFU. The cheapest
copy of this title we could find on Abebooks costs 22 Australian dollars so this
was really a fine gift to our foundation. Thank you so much, Karyn!

eBay sellers and Liza Marklund, April-July 2003 |

Since
spring
AFU has been active on www.eBay.com
buying single items and book lots from the international market.
Our focus is on
getting one cheap copy of each
UFO-related title not yet in the AFU reference library,
preferably hard covers or fine ex-library copies. This is for
future preservation. As far as we know this is the only
project of this kind, anywhere in the world. So far we have bought
about 200 titles ranging from skeptical Prometheus books to
New Age titles, like the one pictured on the left.
The scheme is sponsored by Swedish success
author Liza
Marklund. More details to follow in AFU Newsletter
#46, which will be out in August 2003.

is the result of an exchange with two UK researchers who have
spent days copying the archives of the Tyneside UFO Society,
a group that was operating in the 1950's and 1960's. The
archive is kept at the City Library in Newcastle
where they copied about 400 pages of clippings dating from
1947 to 1968. Lots of interesting early material here,
we will try for an archives inventory to be posted at this

| The Danish Skandinavisk
UFO Information (SUFOI) - www.sufoi.dk
- has transferred their report archive (1958-2001)
to AFU. The archive was delivered by Clas Svahn, Andreas
Ohlsson and Håkan Ekstrand, members of the UFO-Sweden board,
who met Ole Henningsen, Kim Möller Hansen and Per Andersen
from SUFOI, in Copenhagen, where the archive was turned over.
With them was also UFO-Norway's chairman Ole Jonny Braenne.
Thus it was a unique 'top meeting' of Scandinavian ufologists.
The archive measures about 4-5 meters, after unpacking and
sorting into one of our free shelves. We are currently
discussing with SUFOI how we can take care of this valuable
and unique material in the best possible way. |
