Recent donations 2003 - thanks for your support!

From Mattias "Matte" Johansson, December 2, 2003.
Our sponsor and co-worker Mattias Johansson has donated a brand new video machine that can also handle American NTSC video tapes.

The gift is worth 890 SEK, about USD 125, and immediately found it's natural place along with our collection of video tape recordings.

From Ole Jonny Braenne and Odd-Gunnar Røed, Norway, early December 2003.
Ole Jonny Braenne, our Norwegian representative and benefactor has sent us another  box of books, pamplets and magazines from his own collection (including such rare items as ten issues of Ray Palmer's book-magazine "The Hidden World", Valdamar Valarian's "The Matrix", and "A model of ball lighting" by David Fryberger, which is an excerpt from the Proceedings of a Hessdalen conference in 1994).  There was also an unbuilt plastic model of the Roswell UFO, for our paraphernalia department!!

Just another week later Ole Jonny sent yet another box with documents,  fetched by him from former UFO-Norway and Project Hessdalen UFO activist Odd-Gunnar Røed. The contents of this box, seen in the right-hand corner of the picture below, was mainly correspondence files, sorted by year,  from Odd-Gunnar's period of work with UFO-Norway and Project Hessdalen. These files will be further sorted, put into file folders and preserved with the AFU collection.

From Hilary Evans, being catalogued in November...
At the AFU annual meeting on November 22, the recent donation by London author (of books on UFOs & the paranormal)   Hilary Evans, had been sorted alphabetically into two sections of book shelves (picture on the right), before we start the process of cataloguing.

The cataloguing of these, sometimes very elusive, titles in foreign languages (Spanish, Portugese, French, Russian, etc) will be immensely helped by Hilary's previous donation of his annotated bibliography of books in his possession   (some of them now with us!).

It was the general opinion, at the AFU board meeting, that this is one of the most important donations ever to our foundation. It helps us profile the truly international (not just Anglo-American -Scandinavian) character of the AFU collections.  We plan to publish separate lists of the book titles and magazines received from Hilary Evans and Philip Creighton, early in year 2004.

Left:  A small selection of the hundreds of new titles that will go into our international reference library.
From Bill Jones, Columbus, Ohio, October 2003 AFU has started an exchange program with William Jones of MUFON-Ohio, who collects materials for future preservation with the Ohio State University UFO collection. AFU is packing a box of (mostly) European UFO-related materials published in English - magazines and book copies that are surplus to our needs. AFU received a collection of tabloid newspaper materials about a year ago, and recently Bill sent us new boxes of UFO magazines and books, such as the ones in the picture below. We'll try to get a meaty package away to Bill and the OSU, very soon! Thanks!
From Anders Gernandt, Arboga, Sweden, October, 2003 Anders Gernandt, former test pilot and member of the Swedish parliament in the 1970's and 1980's, has donated 67 UFO-related books from his private library to the AFU foundation. Many of his books will come handy as the second or third copy of that title in our reference and lending library. Thank you very much!
Hilary Evans bids a farewell to some of his books and magazines before going to Sweden and preservation with AFU.

From Philip Creighton and Hilary Evans, London, October 18-19, 2003.  UFO-Sweden's Clas Svahn and Hakan Ekstrand fetched a car-load crammed with gifts for AFU from the archives of Gordon Creighton (managed by Gordon's son Philip), and from the archives of UFO author Hilary Evans. The two collections include a combined total of about 500 book titles (e.g. a large number of UFO-related books in Spanish) and 1.000 magazine issues.    Below: Philip Creighton. Photo: Clas Svahn.

From Lisette Larkins, sales director for Hampton Roads Publishing Co. in Charlottesville, Virginia, USA, Sept 24, 2003.
We bought one of Lisette Larkins'  UFO-related books second-hand on eBay, discovered her homepage, and started a correspondence.  Lisette kindly offered to send us her books. We've just received  three copies each of her two books ("Calling on extraterrestrials" (2003) and "Talking to extraterrestrials" (2002)  plus seven other UFO-related books published by Hampton Roads Publishing. All-in-all 14 pounds of new books for our reference library, worth their costs as new, plus 54 dollars for the shipping to Sweden, paid for by Lisette Larkin and the publishers. We are very grateful to Lisette and to the Hampton Roads Publishing Co.  This may prove to be an example for other book publishers around the world - a way in which you can support a  worldwide library collection of UFO-related literature.  AFU accepts and catalogues donations of all UFO-related media - in any language!
From Ole Jonny Braenne, Oslo, Norway, Sept 18, 2003
Another box of 7 kilos from our Norwegian friend and benefactor, chairman of UFO-Norway. Many Scandinavian titles plus Leonard G. Cramp's "The A.T. factor: Piece for a jig-saw, part III" and Andrew Collins'  "The second coming" - a little off-side from the UFO subject but still mentioning the subject and thus of interest to our reference library collection. Takk!!
From Karyn Birkett, Traralgon, Victoria, Austrlia, Sept 5, 2003.
We recently asked an Australian eBay seller if we could buy her copy of the John Pinkney / Lenard Ryzman book "Alien honeycomb", a sought-after book which has been sadly missing in our library. The problem was that we are in Sweden and the seller only wanted to sell within Australia.

Replying, Karyn Birkett, said she was willing to donate the copy to our archives free of charge. The copy arrived early September here and is very gratefully accepted by us at AFU. The cheapest copy of this title we could find on Abebooks costs 22 Australian dollars so this was really a fine gift to our foundation. Thank you so much, Karyn!

From Ole Jonny Braenne, Oslo, Norway, August 21, 2003.
Our Norwegian benefactor sent us another 8 kilos box, crammed with old and new books - see some of the new titles to the right.

Among them three copies of "Experimental methods for studying the Hessdalen phenomenon in the light of the proposed theories: a comparative overview", by Erling Strand and Massimo Teodorani.  Also two copies of the American edition of  David Langford's "An account of a meeting with denizens of another world, 1871". And... a mint copy of J. Richard Gott's "Time travel in Einstein's universe".

From eBay sellers and Liza Marklund, April-July 2003
Since spring AFU has been active on www.eBay.com buying single items and book lots from the international market.

Our focus is on getting one cheap copy  of each UFO-related title not yet in the AFU reference library, preferably hard covers or fine ex-library copies. This is for future preservation. As far as we know this is the only project of this kind, anywhere in the world. So far we have bought about 200 titles ranging from skeptical Prometheus books to New Age titles, like the one pictured on the left.

The scheme is sponsored by Swedish success author Liza Marklund. More details to follow in AFU Newsletter #46, which will be out in August 2003.

From Mário N. Rangel, Brazil, July 28, 2003
AFU received a copy of the author's 2001 study of more than sixty Brazilian abductions. This book is published in Portuguese by the Brazilian organization CBPDV.    Thank you very much, Mario!!
From Ole Jonny Braenne, July 3, 2003
Ole Jonny's latest box crammed with goodies sorted out from his book & mag collection. Ole has gone back to "compact living" (a smaller flat in Oslo) so hopes are high at the archives for more of his fine things!! In this box, everything from Adamski books, to Uri Geller, conspiracy & cult material & ... John Searl's "Law of squares, truth table. The secret of the Searl technology". Plus a lot of magazines, from Penthouse to the Australasian Ufologist. Thanks a lot!
From Joe McGonagle and Gary Anthony (UK), July 2, 2003
This is the result of an exchange with two UK researchers who have spent days copying the archives of the Tyneside UFO Society, a group that was operating in the 1950's and 1960's. The archive is kept at the City Library in Newcastle where they copied about 400 pages of clippings dating from 1947 to 1968.  Lots of interesting early material here, we will try for an archives inventory to be posted at this site!
From Clas Svahn, May 20, 2003
Clas Svahn came by for another delivery of materials. Besides the books, pictured on the right, the archives' collection  received a copy of the Danish SUFOI's official history 1975-2000 (in print and on a CD); a fairly complete collection of the Swedish science fiction magazine "Jules Verne-magasinet"; and lots of other fhings.
From Mikael Sjöberg, May 2003
Three books donated by Mikael Sjöberg for the AFU library: Jay David: "The flying saucer reader" (copy in mint condition), Dale White: "Is something up there?" and  Yves Naud: "UFOs and extraterrestrials in history, volume 2".
From Anders Liljegren April-May 2003
In the picture, some of the recent second-hand books acquired for the AFU library through eBay auctions, including Linda Moulton Howe's "Alien Harvest", Janet Bergmark's "In the presence of aliens", Colin Wilson's study of alien visitations; and German studies on UFO cults and contactee cases.
From Roger Skoog and Clas Svahn, April 11, 2003
Roger Skoog is a member of the Swedish skeptics and has written about "The photographic picture - bearer of fact or illusion?". Clas Svahn has edited the 17th (!) edition of his UFO encyclopedia with a 265 items Swedish bibliography of UFO-related books.
From Mikael Sjöberg, March 27, 2003 Six issues of Anglo-American newsstand magazines previously not in our files: UFO Confidential  (Fall 1981), UFO and Alien Comix (1977), UFO Sightings (1/1993), UFO Annual (1976) and UFO Magazine (UK, issues 2 and 4, 2000).
From Skandinavisk UFO Information (SUFOI), Copenhagen, March 18, 2003
The Danish Skandinavisk UFO Information (SUFOI) - www.sufoi.dk - has  transferred their report archive (1958-2001) to AFU. The archive was delivered by Clas Svahn, Andreas Ohlsson and Håkan Ekstrand, members of the UFO-Sweden board, who met Ole Henningsen, Kim Möller Hansen and Per Andersen from SUFOI, in Copenhagen, where the archive was turned over. With them was also UFO-Norway's chairman Ole Jonny Braenne. Thus it was a unique 'top meeting' of Scandinavian ufologists. The archive measures about 4-5 meters, after unpacking and sorting into one of our free shelves. We are currently discussing with SUFOI how we can take care of this valuable and unique material in the best possible way.
From Ole Henningsen, Denmark, March 18, 2003 Two parcels of UFO magazines. Includes some newcomers to the AFU files, such as the Belgian Inforespace (issues 95-103) and 15 issues of the Dutch UFO Nieuwsbrief (1999-2002).
From Bertil Anders Lindblad, March 18, 2003
Clas Svahn met and interviewed Swedish astronomer / researcher Bertil Anders Lindblad at the Observatory of Lund (www.astro.lu.se). Lindblad donated this unique, three-volume first (1968, U.S. government) edition of the Condon report to AFU. The library at the observatory has two titles on UFOs in its internet searchable catalogue, this was not one of them!
From Ole Jonny Braenne, March 18, 2003
Some of the materials found in the latest box from Ole Jonny Braenne, UFO-Norway.
From UFO-Sweden, February & March, 2003
The year 2000 and 2001 UFO-Sweden report archives include all of the cases received by the national Swedish report center. The deposition will be sorted by date and  added to the 15.000+ Swedish reports already in our files.
From UFO-Sweden, March 15, 2003
Another batch of books bought for money earned from the sale of Stefan Isaksson's thesis. Titles by William Corliss (left) and Curtis Peebles (right).  Also Carol A. Honey's "Flying saucers 50 years later", Robert Galganski's "The Roswell debris field", and a few others.
From Clas Svahn, March 15, 2003
Clas Svahn donated a few books not previously in our library: "Awakening. How extraterrestrial contact can transform your life" by Mary Rodwell and "Formerly top secret: Air Force reports of encounters between our jets and extraterrestrial vehicles" by Stephen Bernath
From Carl-Anton Mattsson, March 15, 2003
AFU sponsor Carl-Anton Mattsson has donated a number of books, including three books catalogued under the CP (channeling) code. "Resan genom evigheten" (right) is a Swedish original by Maini Sand, detailing images and texts claimed to have been received from alien civilizations.

From German researchers Grazyna Fosar and Franz Bludorf, March 2003
The AFU library has a received a gift copy of this German book, which includes the author's theories on a very mixed bag of subjects:  human consciousness, new physics, anti-gravitation, genetics, the 1908 Tungus phenomenon, UFOs and UFO abductions. Main classification for our library will be NP (physics).  Check up the author's web site for more info: http://www.fosar-bludorf.com  Parts of their web site is in English and well worth a visit.

From Swedish  folklorist Ebbe Schön, February 2003
Wellknown Swedish folklore researcher Ebbe Schön has donated - via Clas Svahn - a copy of his book on folklore in the Swedish nature, in translation: "Fairies, trolls and talking trees". The book includes chapters on heavenly signs, ghosts, fairies, trolls, dragons and other spirits of nature well-known in popular belief. A welcome addition to the TF classification (i.e. folklore) in our reference library.
Exchange with Luc Bürgin, Switzerland, February 2003.
AFU has donated copies of Swedish books to Luc Burgin, in exchange for a copy of his book "UFOs über der Schweiz" published in 1999. The book has a catalogue of Swiss UFO cases, and chapters on the UFO files of the Swiss Air Force (with an appendix of document copies), cases from the Swissair airline, and, of course, a chapter on Switzerland's own UFO-cult legend, Billy Meier.
From Fundation Anomalia, Feb 14, 2003.
The donation of issues 19/20 and 21 of Cuadernos de Ufologia completes our collection of this Spanish magazine title, published annually, or semi-annually, in  book size.
From UFO-Sweden and Stefan Isaksson, Feb 6, 2003.
Stefan Isaksson's dissertation "New religious UFO movements. Extraterrestrial salvation in comtemporary America" (see AFU Newsletter # 40) was printed by UFO-Sweden and sold through Bob Girard's Arcturus Book Service. The sales brought in a net that UFO-Sweden (through Clas Svahn) has used to buy relatively new books for the AFU reference library. The first batch of new titles was brought to us on Feb. 6 and has already been catalogued to the collection.
From Clas Svahn, Feb 6, 2003. Clas Svahn has donated a number of new items from his vast collection, including: 1) an almost complete collection of OMNI Magazine 1979-1995 (picture); 2)  correspondence files including his contacts with two Swedish contactees (1991-2002); 3) six UFO-related book manuscripts (published / unpublished); 4) a documentation of the Project 1947 web site; 5) a file about Sveriges UFO-Klubb, a shortlived south-Swedish UFO group; plus....  many prints of material available on the Internet.
From Tony Walter, Feb 6, 2003. Clas Svahn and Andreas Ohlsson brought the latest batch of gifts to the AFU library and archives.  From Tony Walter, an Englishman living in Stockholm, who recently donated a large number of video tapes,  came another large collection of magazines including many BUFORA magazines and newsletters.
