Files from UFO organisations and 'ufologists' in Norway

The Odd-Gunnar Røed and Project Hessdalen archives

Received from Ole Jonny Braenne  during 2004 and 2005. Sorted into 2 folders (Odd-Gunnar Røed) plus 3 folders (Project Hessdalen) by Anders Liljegren (AFU).

The Project Hessdalen-related material from Odd-Gunnar Røed has been combined with another Hessdalen file, previously kept at AFU, mostly with materials received from Swedish ufologists who took part in the early stages of the project (1983-1985), or who have since regularly traveled to the  Norwegian valley for spotting out the situation there.  The archive on Hessdalen is arranged chronologically (just like our archive on the Swedish Project U.R.D.).

It is expected that the Project Hessdalen archive will grow, considerably. Sadly lacking are, for instance, any of the large number of good pictures of light phenomena taken at Hessdalen. It is also expected that we will be able to gather - by internal research in AFU files  - several more folders of news clippings and magazines articles published world-wide on the lights and the project. AFU has also established contacts with the present (Italian-centered) Project Hessdalen to become a regular recipient of their materials for future preservation.

A very formalised organisational structure was built. The Bergen society became the report center and Finn Kalvik edited the centre’s publication Rapportnytt.

5

Correspondence with Kolbjørn Stenødegård 1971-1981.

Correspondence file, chronological order.

A close collegial friendship grew between Finn Kalvik and Kolbjørn Stenødegård, resulting in a lively UFO-related correspondence for a decade, especially throughout the years 1974- 1980.

This thick volume is central to the collection, detailing the (generally) weekly contacts - by letter - between the two. Letters were sometimes very detailed (6-7 pages), especially from Stenødegård. Unfortunately, the Stenødegård collection was lost, after his death, on a garbage dump.

The volume ends with Stenødegård’s attempt to recruit (1981) Kalvik for his new skeptical society NIVFO (Norsk Institutt for Videnskapelig Forskning og Opplysning), which became Norwegian affiliate of the American CSICOP.

The board met semi-annually in Denmark and Kalvik often took the ferry to Copenhagen to take part in the meetings, delivering written semi-annual reports about his work for SUFOI, which included recruiting new subscribers in Norway and reporting Norwegian UFO sightings. Kalvik maintained a lively correspondence with X.P. Madsen   (leader of the SUFOI report centre), Peter A. Hansen, Erling Jensen, Ole Henningsen, C.H. Pedersen, Jørgen Bengtvig and other SUFOI board members.
