ARCHIVES FOR UFO RESEARCH

AFU

Inventory of magazines and other serials - published from the United States,  titles beginning with letters L--Z (inventory list updated March 5, 2006).

Sven Andersson is a librarian, expert on old antiquarian books and also a collector of UFO and space-related literature, living in Falköping in the south of Sweden.

Recently he donated his collection of OMNI magazines to AFU and he has also donated substantial parts of his UFO book library before that. The OMNI collection was most welcome to plug the holes we had, and many of the mint condition copies he donated were also used to replace previous worn-and-torn copies on our OMNI shelf.

On the right: The OMNI collection with surplus copies on the bottom shelf.

From Hilary Evans came (Dec 13, 2006) a new collection of UFO Newsclipping Service's, neatly sorted into orange file folders (the folio format used for the UFONS') (picture on upper right).

We re-used another four similar file folders from other parts of the Evans collection received and formed a very attractive series of folders for our complete holdings of UFONS (lower right).

The Evans collection filled a huge hole in the 1971-1977 period for this publication plus a number of individual issues we were missing.

One of the long-lasting achievements in ufology is the UFO Newsclipping Service, once started by Roderick Dyke and then continued by Lucius Farish.

Farish graciously donates a copy of each published issue to AFU. In 2005, Rod Dyke has also donated a substantial collection of old issues. Thank you very much!     If you are interested  in recent news stories from the English-speaking world and South America (translations in each issue) this is for you. Contact:

In November 2004, Hilary Evans, the British author-researcher and proprietor of the Mary Evans Picture Library , donated a full set of the first 12 volumes the American UFO Magazine (edited by Vicki Cooper). Evans also donated similar bound volumes of Scandinavian and Italian magazines.
OMNI Magazine was the major popular science-oriented journal read by ufologists in the period 1978-1995.

AFU has received two major collections of OMNIs -- from Clas Svahn in 2003 and, later in 2003, from Hilary Evans. The combined collection is complete   (200 issues) and also includes six issues of The Best of OMNI Science Fiction (No. 1 - No. 6).

A broad archives collection of UFO-related serials and journals should include titles that represent viewpoints of all sorts. AFU has recently acquired, second-hand on eBay, what has finally become a complete set of the skeptical CSICOP publication The Skeptical Inquirer (the very first issues were titled The Zetetic). This is but one example of our willingness and long-term aim to house materials from all views of the spectrum.
